Once Upon a Twice

Once Upon a Twice
by Denise Doyen illustrated by Barry Moser

By the light of the full moon, a group of young mice are scurrying about.  When  Jam Boy stops to smell a rose, the elder mice warn the younger mice of the dangers of the night.  Despite their warnings, Jam takes a different path and finds himself enamored  by all he sees around him.   Unfortunately, while distracted by all the exciting sights, the young mouse misses a sign of danger!  Will he survive to tell his tale to future generations?

The powerful illustrations, yellow font set against the dark background of the night, and the rhyming text full of nonsense words, make this cautionary tale an exciting, yet occasionally creepy, story!   It definitely is useful for teaching a lesson about the importance of following the advice of grown-ups, and will also be a hit for my younger students who often ask for scary stories!
