Chasing Augustus tells the emotional story of Rosalita “Rosie” Gillespie, who faces heartbreak and challenges following the stroke of her father. Rosie is forced to give up her home and live with her strict, grouchy grandfather. Her pain is intensified when her mother, who abandoned the family when Rosie was still a baby, gives away her beloved dog, Augustus. Rosie wants, more than anything, to find Augustus and goes to great lengths to locate and recover her lost friend.
Chasing Augustus is an outstanding book that will likely stir a variety of emotions in readers. Rosie’s story is a heartwarming tale of hope and determination. She is a stubborn, yet admirable, character struggling to overcome the challenges thrown her way. She makes new acquaintances, including Philippe, a neighbor’s foster child who has a heartbreaking past of his own, who she persuades to help her in her rescue mission. It’s a beautiful story that frequently brought tears to my eyes.
